Saruni Wild is located in a secret corner of the larger Maasai Mara ecosystem where wildlife are still shy and not used to vehicles and people. You find there al the species of the class Mara fauna, but also some special species that are rare in the better known Maasai Mara locations. The wild dogs have a den just North of Saruni Wild and are regularly seen – sometimes as many as 17 of them – hunting impala; the aardwolf, the greater galago, a friendly leopard that we have nicknamed Marsh because lives near the swamp South of the camp, the white tail mongoose are always there, expecially during night game drives. And of course our famous giraffe, possibly the largest single group in the Mara with more than 55 often walking together. Saruni Wild is also an excellent place to watch and understand elephant and buffalo, the two species that dominate the forests and the mountains that crown the camp site.
In general, the Masai Mara ecosystem has an astounding variety of wildlife. It boasts amazing birdlife with over 550 species and its herds of plains game are second to none. The forests and the plains also provide a fascinating variety of plants, trees and flowers. Below are our field guides of what you are going to see in the Mara.
